Q?

What is the difference between Gel and Mousse?

A.

Mousse is generally used more for volume, and can also manage frizz. Gel is more for control.

Q?

I’m thinking about perming my hair, but all my friends tell me perms are out. Are they?

A.

Not necessarily. The perms we used to get back in the 80's are not the most attractive. (What were we thinking?) But anyway . . . perms are more like an accessory. You can use them just for body to hold your style, put a few rods in the crown to give lift or you can really go for lots of curl. Honestly, your hair texture really depends on how your perm will look, if you are planning on wearing it natural. As Dr. Laura would say, "If you're looking for a good opinion . . . this is the place". Come in and visit with one of our stylists.

Q?

Volume, volume volume! How do I get it and keep it?

A.

Using the right product is key in putting volume in your hair. There are so many volumizing products in salons, just ask your stylist which one will work best for your hair texture. Something we teach our clients at hAiR•fX is to continually move their hair in all different directions with their hands or a brush while blowdrying. This trick is not only fast but it uses the curve of the head like a giant round brush.

Q?

How do I know what the right hair color is for me?

A.

You aren't supposed to know . . .your stylist is. They will look at your skin tone, eye and hair color. Generally if your eye color and skin tone are cool, ash tones are recommended. Likewise, if your eye color and skin tone is warm, use the warmer shades in color. A good professional consultation is the way to go.

Q?

I really love the salon, but I’ve had to go to elsewhere because I can’t afford some of the services. Any suggestions?

A.

That's always a tough one isn't it? Well, here's the answer. Call the salon. Ask them to put you on our model list for our educational events. We do in-salon education up to two times a month. Check out the model page on our website, fill out the form and submit it.

Q?

I have so many bottles of shampoos that I have tried, what, if anything, can I do with them?

A.

Well, it depends. If they are "over-the-counter" shampoos, lesson learned: How many did you have to try before you found one you liked? And, before long, that one will stop working too. It's the nature of the beast.
Most salon shampoos have a low pH balance. So, you can always use them for hand washing your delicates. Put in a nice soap dispenser for a hand soap, or they can make a great body wash.

Q?

Is it true you should switch off product lines every 6 months?

A.

When the products you are using are no longer giving you the results you were receiving it could be for many reasons.
· Have you moved to a different area, with well or city water?
· Any hormonal changes?
· Antibiotics?
· Coloring, perming or relaxing?
· Is there more gray in your hair?
There are many other reasons, so talk with your stylist about "prescribing" specific products just for you. A good professional brand clarifying shampoo is a great "deep cleanser" for you to use once a week to remove any buildup whether it be products, environmental changes and pollution. We like Paul Mitchell's Shampoo Two.

Q?

Is it safe to color my hair during my pregnancy?

A.

Yes, however some women are more sensitive than others to smells for the first few months. If this is the case you might want to wait until that nausea feeling subsides. Afterwards, go for it. Now more than ever is the time to feel extra beautiful!

Q?

I want to go back to my original hair color. Do I have to wait until it grows out?

A.

No way! Don't even attempt it! Tell your stylist that you want to go back to your natural color and they can match your shade by incorporating highlights or low lights depending on the desired result. This will get you on your way to your goal.

Q?

Where can I find today’s hair fashions suited for me?

A.

Your hairstyle should be in relationship to personal choice, lifestyle and needs. At hAiR•fX we can create a look that is all about you, not the famous movie star in the magazine.
